En un bajo cubierta, con una huella de unos 30 m2, tenemos que encajar dos dormitorios, una escalera, un baño, y un vacío sobre el salón para darle emoción al asunto. Novelando el día a día de la familia aparece un baño atomizado, donde todos sus elementos se pueden utilizar de manera simultánea sin intrusiones. Una ducha que mira sobre la doble altura, con un ventanuco para cotillear qué pasa en el salón sin ser vistos. Una cabina de inodoro solitaria e insonorizada. Y un lavabo en el distribuidor, donde el espejo nunca se empaña. Este es el elemento experimental; una pieza que se asoma sobre el vacío. Pretende ser lo más etérea posible, y tener la mínima superficie para limpiar. Lo conforma una estructura de varillas de acero de 10mm de grosor, en la que se encaja un lavabo de colegio de chapa, 3 cajas de metacrilato con tapa abatible y una bolsa papelera. Como el baño, formado por partes independientes. La balda inferior será algo elástica, un trenzado de cordón de PVC. El espejo es una pieza abatible, que juega con la pared que cierra el inodoro y un armario, también de espejo. A ver qué tal sale el experimento. Por lo menos, el vaso de agua para la mesilla de noche pilla de camino. ATOMIZED BATHROOM //&nbsp;This is a little piece of my home, the renovation of an existing house. Compraron un garaje, una antigua nave abierta a un patio a la que se accede a través de un paso para coches. Buscaban una luz agradable para trabajar, y un lugar cerrado donde tener reuniones. El espacio principal de la nave mantiene la estructura original de cerchas de madera, lucernarios irregulares de teja de vidrio y suelo de taller de coches. El proyecto trata de potenciar esta sorpresa generando un umbral entre la entrada y este espacio de oficina; un paso abocinado azul en un muro grueso, relleno con un aseo y un cuarto de instalaciones. Se trata de hacer legible este espacio, construyendo solo estanterías a ambos lados. Se forman a partir de dos redondos horizontales, encastrados entre las mochetas existentes. Un sistema que deja abierto poder apoyar y colgar objetos. Juega con unas chapas que se enganchan para hacer de bases más sólidas. Hacia las ventanas, las estanterías son bajas y se convierten en bancos corridos. Hacia el fondo de la nave, las chapas se pliegan para acoger una cocina abierta y camuflada. La sala de reuniones es un objeto, una caja de hierro con interior de cristal, madera y espejos. La estructura, a base de costillas, se realiza con tubo en su parte oculta -suelo, techo y pared de espejos- &nbsp;y se completa con redondos verticales en su lateral visto. Los finales de este sistema de ‘cuadernas’ se cierran con chapa y puertas de vidrio abatibles. Hace de soporte para plantas y regala un altillo para descansar. Manuel Ocaña ideó la estructura para la conservación de la cubierta. Una solución poco invasiva y económica a base de puntales dispuestos en horizontal y diagonal para rigidizar un sistema de cerchas que, debido a la escasa sección de fondo de los travesaños, pandeaba en dirección horizontal comprometiendo la dirección de las cargas verticales y la estabilidad del conjunto. These are the headquarters for Bulletproof, a company that designs corporate presentations. They bought a garage, an old warehouse open to a courtyard. It is accessed through a passage for cars. They were looking for nice lighting to work in, and an enclosed area for meetings. The main space of the building maintains the original structure of wooden trusses, irregular glass tile skylights, and an automobile workshop floor. The project tries to enhance this surprise by generating a threshold between the entrance and this office space; a blue opening in a thick wall, filled with a restroom and utility space. The idea is to make this space legible, and we only construct shelves on both sides. They are formed from two horizontal rounds, embedded between the existing recesses. A system open to the possibility of supporting and hanging objects. It plays with some metal sheets that are hooked to make more solid bases. Towards the windows, the shelves are low and become benches. Towards the back of the building, the sheets fold up to accommodate an open, camouflaged kitchen. The meeting room is an object, an iron box with an interior of glass, wood, and mirrors. The structure, based on ribs, is made of tubing in its hidden part - floor, ceiling, and mirror wall - and is completed with vertical rounds on its exposed side. This frame system is closed at both ends with metal sheets and hinged glass doors. It also acts as a support for plants and provides a loft for relaxation. Manuel Ocaña (Fast&amp;Furious Office) designed the structure for the preservation of the roof. A minimally invasive and economical solution based on struts. Algo pequeño y barato, donde poder realizar tres actividades básicas: comer, asearse y dormir.&nbsp; El resultado es un proyecto que juega con las alturas y la normativa - una cocina con bancada para hacer de comedor en planta baja, una pequeña entreplanta de baño y un bajo cubierta donde todo es colchón. &nbsp; Actualmente, a la espera de presupuestos :) This is the project for a family shelter overlooking a lake. The idea follows the dream of having an empty turret for electrical installations. Tratadas con tapaporos, endurecedor y barniz para no teñir sin querer las manos de quien los utilice. Abren y cierran un baño escondido entre armarios. Una vivienda para una pareja y su galgo, Manuela. Diseñada junto con Jorge Marañón como Estudio Endémico. Nos topamos con una planta muy larga y estrecha, donde la distribución de espacios de día y noche estaba descompensada. En el ala norte, con techos abuhardillados más bajos, se encontraban el salón y la cocina. Y hacia el sur, con techos altos, el dormitorio, por el que se tenía que pasar para acceder a las terrazas – una cerrada desaprovechada, y una exterior -. El baño en el dormitorio era un pegote que generaba un pasillo oscuro entre ambos lados de la vivienda. Intervenimos invirtiendo los usos. Al norte, recogidos, concentramos las zonas más privadas; un dormitorio con baño en suite, y un despacho/cuarto de invitados, abierto a la circulación de la casa. Hacia el sur, donde la planta se extiende, planteamos la zona más pública; cocina y salón. La cocina es una isla, para hacer plan mientras se prepara la comida. El almacenamiento, instalaciones y nevera, se esconden en una pared de armarios. Como extra, aprovechando el espacio de un antiguo armario, colamos un baño secreto (anunciado con un pomo, Sr. Roca). En este baño interior, con una altura de más de 3m, se concentra todo el color y el lujo de la casa. Concatenamos la cocina con el salón hasta el exterior. Rasgamos las ventanas existentes para obtener dos pasos, extendimos el acabado del suelo y acondicionamos debidamente la terraza cubierta para servir como salón, incluyendo unas claraboyas para asegurar más luz y ventilación cruzada. La terraza exterior recibe un lavado de cara – una chapa para homogeneizar el fondo y una ducha para refrescarse. Buscábamos amplitud de espacios y orden, y, sin querer, le dimos a Manuela una pista para correr. PENTHOUSE FOR MANUELA // This is the renovation project of a penthouse in the center of Madrid. The bathroom in the bedroom was cluttered and generated a dark corridor between the two sides of the house. We intervened by inverting the uses. To the north, we concentrated the more private areas; a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, and an office/guest room, open to the circulation of the house. To the south, where the floor plan extends, we proposed the most public area; the kitchen and living room. The kitchen is an island, to enjoy with friends while preparing food. The storage, facilities, and refrigerator, are hidden in a wall of cabinets. As an extra, taking advantage of the space of an old closet, we sneak a secret bathroom here (announced with a knob, We connect the kitchen with the living room to the outside. We ripped out the existing windows to obtain two passages, extended the floor finish, and properly conditioned the covered terrace to serve as a living room, including skylights to ensure more light and cross ventilation. The outdoor terrace gets a facelift - a veneer to homogenize the background and a shower to cool off. Clara es artista y no le gustan las cosas muy diseñadas. El proyecto, por tanto, debía ofrecer una base sobre la que ir apañando la vida y que fuese ‘casi nada’. Trabajamos sobre una nave de unos 10x10m con dos cerchas y un tejado a dos aguas, una fachada con dos ventanas y una puerta. Para que ‘casi nada’ funcionase para ‘casi todo’ parecía que nada podía estar muy atado. Teníamos claro tres cosas: que el espacio se debía de entender como lo que era -un cuadrado-, que teníamos que utilizar una cocina que Clara había comprado por wallapop de liquidación (*de Amarillo Cromo), y que las bajantes estaban donde estaban y eran inamovibles. Decidimos hacer un ‘burladero’; un frente donde poner la cocina (todos quieren estar siempre en la cocina), que se convertiría en protagonista útil del espacio y tras el que se escondería el baño y el desorden de los armarios e instalaciones. El burladero, que pasa bajo las correas de las cerchas, permite que se entienda la nave tal y como es, y evita que haya puertas que abran directamente sobre el espacio (especialmente el baño). En el proceso de ubicar dónde podía dormir Clara, pasamos por hacer un dormitorio mueble, una cabaña, una caja con ventanas.. hasta que decidimos despegarnos del suelo y aportar un horizonte a la nave, una conexión con el exterior necesaria casi para la salud mental. Terminó siendo el hito del proyecto: una plataforma muy ligera, semi-colgante, que a su vez sostiene una pequeña elevación de la cubierta y permite salir a limpiar los cristales. Con redondos de 20mm trabajando a compresión y suspensión, y corrugados de 8mm a tracción, diseñamos con Manuel Ocaña esta estructura. Acepta que suba un máximo de 5 personas, por lo que hicimos una escalera con ruedas que se pudiese esconder: skinny habits. TOPO’S SHED //&nbsp;This is the house studio for my friend Clara Cebrian. Clara is an artist and does not like overly designed things. The project, therefore, had to provide a basis for life to happen and be ‘almost nothing’. We work on a 10x10m warehouse with a gable roof held by two steel rafters, and a facade with two windows and a door. For ‘almost nothing’ to work as ‘almost anything’ it seemed that nothing should be very tied. We were sure about three things: that the space must be understood as what it is - a square -, that we had to use a kitchen that Clara had bought for sale (by Amarillo Cromo), and that the downspouts were where they were and were immovable. We decided to make a ‘covert wall’; a front where we could place the kitchen (everyone always wants to be in the kitchen). The kitchen would become the useful protagonist of the space, and behind it, the bathroom and facilities would hide. The wall passes under the belt of the trusses, allowing the warehouse to be understood as it is, and prevents doors from opening directly over the space (especially the bathroom). In the process of locating Clara’s sleeping place, we thought of making a wheeled bed, a cabin, a box with windows ... until we decided to detach ourselves from the ground. We thereby provide a horizon in the warehouse; a connection with the outside that we believe is necessary for mental health. It ended up being the project’s highlight: a very light, semi-hanging platform, which in turn supports a small elevation of the roof. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Este es el proyecto de reforma de una casa de campo, un complejo con patios, jardines, piscina, capilla y plaza de toros mirando sobre un valle. Diseñado junto con Jorge Marañón como Estudio Endémico, intervenimos con menor o mayor intensidad en todas sus partes durante 3 años. Nos encontramos el edificio principal de la vivienda en estado de ruina. Los clientes, una pareja con hijos mayores, buscaban poder vivir solos en la planta baja de la casa principal y extender la vivienda en planta alta cuando tuviesen visitas. Decidimos conservar los muros exteriores, regularizar los huecos de ventanas y abrir un nuevo paso entre patio y jardín. Hicimos dos propuestas. La primera la explicaremos brevemente por el cariño que le dedicamos. Conservando los muros perimetrales, concentrábamos las aguas en núcleos estructurales, que sostenían el forjado superior y permitían ordenar los demás usos. La planta alta quedaba liberada de estructura, cubriéndose con cerchas tras atar los muros de carga. El paso entre patio y jardín en el eje Norte-Sur de la vivienda, parte el edificio en dos. Un frente de armarios camufla un aseo, un armero y el ala privada, que vuelca al Este; una salita de estar y un dormitorio con baño, vestidor y zona de despacho, abierta a las vistas al acantilado. El ala Oeste alberga un gran comedor abierto al jardín, una cocina con chimenea, despensa, lavandería, y la conexión con la planta superior. Próximo al eje de entrada, suben unas escaleras al salón principal de la casa. Desde ahí, una galería, abierta a la vida del patio, da acceso a tres dormitorios con baños en suite – uno de cada color – y termina en un despacho y biblioteca, con las vistas privilegiadas del Este. Reciclamos todas las puertas y contraventanas originales, en ocasiones cambiándoles el uso. Sacamos huequitos para estanterías aprovechando irregularidades de los muros originales. Utilizamos materiales de la zona; madera, barro y piedra, y conservando los colores originales del complejo y jugando con despieces. Aparte de la casa principal, también reformamos la vivienda de los guardeses, convertimos unas antiguas caballerizas en un porche con barbacoa, rehabilitamos la capilla, y construimos sombras y una piscina entre otras cosas. BROKEN MANOR // This is the renovation project of a country house, a complex with patios, gardens, a swimming pool, a chapel, and a bullring, all overlooking a valley. Designed together with Jorge Marañón as Estudio Endémico, we intervened with varying intensity in all its parts for 3 years. We found the main building of the house in a state of ruin. The clients, a couple with grown children, wanted to be able to live alone on the first floor and extend the living space upstairs when they had visitors. We decided to preserve the exterior walls, regularize the window openings and introduce a new passage between the patio and the garden. We made two proposals. The first one we will briefly explain because of the care we put into it. Preserving the perimeter walls, we concentrated the water in structural cores, which supported the upper floor slab and allowed us to organize the other uses. The upper floor was free of structure, covered with trusses after tying the load-bearing walls. The passage between the courtyard and garden on the north-south axis of the house divides the building in two. A front of closets camouflages a toilet, a wardrobe, and the private wing, which turns to the east; a living room and a bedroom with a bathroom, dressing room, and a desk area, open to the views of the cliff. The west wing accommodates a large dining room that opens to the garden. A kitchen with a fireplace, a pantry, a laundry, and a connection to the upper floor. Next to the entrance hall, stairs lead up to the main living room of the house. From there, a gallery opens to the life of the courtyard. It gives access to three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms - one of each color - and ends in an office and library, overlooking the privileged views of the East. We recycled all the original doors and shutters, sometimes changing their use. We obtained little nooks for shelving from irregularities in load-bearing walls. We used materials from the area; wood, clay, and stone while preserving the original colors of the complex and playing with the original cuts. Apart from the main house, we also renovated the caretakers' house, converted some old stables into a porch with a barbecue, rehabilitated the chapel, and built shades and a swimming pool among other
